Many people do not know the difference between writing HTML for websites and writing HTML for email. Only a fraction of what works for websites will render correctly in the dozens of different mail clients and webmails available on the internet. At smartFOCUS Digital it has become my responsibility to research which features each mail client will support. I have studied the email marketing practises of many top household names, AND helped design emails and templates for them to use on a daily basis.
In 2007 I left my position as the primary web designer for SAQ Internet, an independent Internet Service Provider based in the South of England and joined smartFOCUS Digital, the worlds leading provider of e-marketing software.
During my time at smartFOCUS Digital (also known as Email Reaction) I have worked for both the support team (helping to troubleshoot problems in our clients work / advising them of what HTML does and does not work well in emails / conducting research into the features supported by different web mails and mail clients) and the services team, where I helped design the email templates used by household names on a daily basis.
I am also familiar with list import processes, list segmentation, template design, template builds from jpeg images, testing and troubleshooting, compatibility issues, broadcasting and reporting. I helped investigate problems when emails are mistaken for spam and blocked. During the design process not only do I support and fix other peoples designs, I also build templates and design images. I use Adobe software (Photoshop/Dreamweaver/Illustrator) for this process
I can't offer you samples of the work I've carried out at smartFOCUS Digital due to client confidentiality, however you may like to review the smartFOCUS Digital client list to see some of the names I have worked with. Other clients also mentioned elsewhere on the smartFOCUS Digital website include EHS Brann, Playboy, Paddypower, Penguin Books, Moneysupermarket and many more.
Email Marketing is much much more than just making a pretty looking web page- you need to understand what will work, what will get the best responses, what features each mail client will support. It's no use writing to billions of people if those billions can't read what you've written.
